Friendship Sunday Spring and Summer Schedule
Because of all the Easter Sacrament Celebrations, we’re altering our Friendship Sunday schedule. There will be no Friendship Sunday in June, because we’ll have more special events. On June 8, from 1-3, we’ll gather in the gym to say good bye to Fr Saju. Everyone is invited to share memories and wish Fr Saju well in his new assignment, St Christopher Parish. On June 22, from 1-3, we’ll gather in the gym to say good bye to Fr Francisco. Everyone is invited to share memories and wish Fr Francisco well in his new assignment, St Joseph Cathedral Basilica.

Parish Retreat

It’s not too early to plan for our Parish Retreat. The dates are November 7, 8, 9 2008. Pick up a  registration form in the parish office and join us for this chance to deepen your faith and have fun!

Parish Summer Mission
If a retreat’s not your thing or if you just can’t wait that long to deepen your faith, join Fr Tom Allender this summer. Fr. Tom will preach at the English masses the weekend of July 5 & 6, then give us his wisdom in mission talks Monday, July 7, Tuesday, July 8, and Wednesday, July 9. The theme is Our Need to Belong. No need to register or rsvp, just come to mass then come back to church to hear Fr. Tom. Details to follow.

Retreat at Notre Dame, Belmont

The Universe as Holy Ground - a retreat day on May 17, 9:30-2:30 at Notre
Dame Province Center, Belmont.

Why was Sister Dorothy Stang, Sister of Notre Dame and martyr, so passionately in love with the people and rainforest of the Amazon? Spend the day with presenter Marlene DeNardo exploring this question and reflecting on creation spirituality. Space is limited and pre-registration
is required. For more information or to register, please go to  www.snddenca.org and enter Holy Ground Retreat in search in upper right corner of the page, or contact Sr. Phyllis D'Anna at
 650-593-2045 x277 or [danna@sndden.org.

Marriage Encounter
Worldwide Marriage Encounter wishes many blessings on all mothers today. Husbands, give your wife a special gift and register for a weekend away for the two of you. Plan to enrich your marriage by attending one of the next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends on June 6-8 & October 24-26 in San Jose . For more information or to register, please contact Manuel & Rory Dominguez at 408-846-7079 or www.rekindleyourmarriage.org

Flowers
If you wish to honor someone with a gift of flowers, you may use the flower donation envelopes near the front door of the church, bring flower donations to church, or contact Rose at the parish office. We especially like to have calla lilies and spring-flowering potted plants for the 50 days of Easter. If you can loan or give these to our Easter décor, we’d really appreciate it!

Special Masses
The Easter season is winding down. The church appearance has changed. The people preparing for sacraments are celebrating those sacraments. Soon we’ll return to the calmer sense of Christ in the ordinary times, the orderly ministry of our lives. We want you to know what’s going on, in these last Easter season Masses. These Masses are different—more crowded, somewhat longer, have reserved seating—from our usual Sunday celebrations.
Today, Pentecost, on May 11, our adults seeking confirmation complete their initiation. We also welcome candidates who were baptized in another faith tradition. Those Confirmation celebrations are at the 9:45 and 12 noon Masses. Note that the 11:30 Mass on May 11 will begin at noon.
On May 18, Trinity Sunday, our teenagers who have been preparing for 2 years will be confirmed by Bishop McGrath at 2pm and 5pm. Note that the 5pm Sunday Mass will be a confirmation Mass, not the usual casual, family Mass. The evening Spanish Mass will begin at 7, not 6:30.
Many of the Spanish masses in May celebrate first communion. It’s an exciting time, a joyous time, a time of rejoicing that our Lord Jesus Christ has been raised from the dead.
Take a careful look at this Mass schedule. All are welcome to join in these celebrations, but bear in mind that these will be crowded, full Masses. They will be longer than usual and the parking lot will fill up earlier than usual. That’s the small price we pay for these joyous celebrations!

Liturgical Catechesis
At Pentecost, Jesus sends the disciples out to do as he did. Jesus was sent on his mission by the Father and he sends us on our mission. We don’t go alone. Also on Pentecost, Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit and all the gifts of the Spirit to help us.
How might we work on that mission Jesus sends us on? For one thing, we need to do more than attend mass and then leave our commission at church. At the end of each mass we are sent forth to love and serve the Lord. So, we’re sent out to do the Lord’s good work in our community. Your pastoral staff, the folks in the office, directors of music, liturgy, and catechetics, and a team of parishioners have joined forces to represent Saint Mary’s at the Gilroy Relay for Life. This worthwhile cause requires a lot of work and a lot of fun. We’ve joined together to honor our friends and loved ones who have died or are suffering from cancer. We’ll hang out at Christmas Hill Park on June 7 and 8, singing, praying, playing, and walking for life. It’s an inspiring event, full of the love and hope God offers his people. We will show that by our devotion to God, each other, and our community.
I hope you find the joy in the Lord and the joy in our community that I do.
